This brings back many memories for me. After WWII when my dad came home and saw the Victory Garden my mom and grandma had planted to suppliment our diet during rationing he decided to try gardening. We ended up with half our large back yard turned into a garden plus we had a plot at the community gardens which required our attention 3-4 evenings a week. It was a lot of work but I loved it and my dad and I kept up our gardens until he passed. Raising 4 children as a single parent the gardens made all the difference in their diets. Today because of handicapps my gardening days are pretty much over except for a few houseplants and all of my children are successful in their chosen professions so they have no time for gardening but I think this is their loss. I particularly liked the article on spices, I still cook at home and such information is invaluable to me.
